QCP Exhibition Opening 30 November 2013 - Digital Disruptions

Had a wonderful time at the Queensland Centre for Photography opening last week! Thanks to everyone who came out to support local photography. It was an amazing turn out and I enjoyed viewing the work hanging in the other galleries - Jeremy Blincoe, Sonia York-Pryce, Emma Leslie, Lucas Davidson, Oscar Munoz and the graduating class of SQTAFE also exhibiting.

Special thanks to Queensland photographer Marian Drew for writing the catalogue.
She did a phenomenal job!

QCP has announced that they have found some funding that will keep them open for at least until mid next year. It is my hope that they can located other operational funding to keep their doors open for many years to come. They are a wonderful resource for Australian photography and they greatly enrich cultural programming in Brisbane.
Please help donate if you can: http://www.qcp.org.au/support/donation

You can now catch Digital Disruptions in person at QCP until January 12th. Please come down and see the show if you haven't done so already!

It was a chance of a lifetime and a dream come true  to be selected to participate in the 2013 Sydney Magnum Photos workshop with photographer

 Eli Reed.
The workshop was put on by the Head On Photography Festival and include two other Magnum photographers, Ian Berry and Chris Steele-Perkins. Participants had to construct a Sydney based photographic essay consisting of 10 images over a five day period. The Pressure was on but the results and the experience proved to be rewarding. Magnum Photos will compile the images from the workshop and will release a book of work. Check back for release date........

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Kiandra Ski Film Project Stills -
I made a film about the skiing history of Australia for the NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water as part of a research project for my Masters degree.  Links to parts of this film to come soon.............

Looking upon this empty landscape you would never have known it was here in 1861, the township of Kiandra first introduced skiing to Australia. To the detriment of many, the remains of the town were leveled in the 1960’s because at the time, preserving sites of heritage was not considered a worthwhile endeavour.
On one level, these photographs simply convey the natural beauty and stillness of the Australian landscape. However, through the stories and memories of the people who once lived there, the photographs become imbued with a deeper level of meaning. In this way, the landscape gains a voice and it is my hope as a photographer the viewer will reflect on the importance of documenting such histories to ensure their significance and survival for future generations.
This body of photographic work was constructed in conjunction with a film, to commemorate 150 years of Australian skiing and the people who have fought diligently to keep this history
alive.
