Making Seasons Change

You can view the full series here on my website: www.vanessabertagnole.com

Technical information:

Each frame is made from vintage silky oak casement windows that have been repurposed into picture frames. The frames were first stripped by hand of the original paint and primer. They were then sanded back, primed again with water-based primer and painted with interior acrylic paint before being distressed. The frames were then sealed with an acrylic spray varnish to protect them. Each frame weighs approximately 4.5kg each. The back of the frames are sealed with foamcore and framer’s tape to keep dust out and there are heavy duty D-rings and wire for hanging.

The photographs are giclée or archival inkjet prints printed on archival fine art cotton rag paper. The prints were then mounted to stained 4mm ply wood with matte gel medium to protect the image and then coated with a UV varnish that is both waterproof and features antifungals. The varnish will also increase resistance to scuffing and image fading and will protect images against moisture and abrasion. Both fine art paper and varnish are museum grade and are 100+ years archival certified.

Space & Place Slideshow - Print was a winner!

It was an honour to be apart of one of QCP's final exhibitions in their South Brisbane gallery space. #2 from Watertank series even placed 4th in the competition!
I wish QCP all the luck in the world as they restructure, continuing their work with the Queensland Festival of Photography each year and with an exhibition space in Los Angeles in partnership with an organisation there. I look forward to seeing more excellent exhibitions coordinated by them in the future.

Queensland Festival of Photography Photography Prize Finalist

I am very excited to announce that I was recently selected as a finalist for the Photography Prize Space & Place as part of the 2014 Queensland Festival of Photography Festival coming up in April. My first national photography competition as an "official Australian"!

The twenty finalists will exhibit their images at the Spaces & Places opening -  March 28th from 5-8pm at the Queensland Centre for Photography.

About the competition: As a part of the Queensland Festival of Photography, the biennial QFP Photography Prize is a celebration of Australian photography. The prize aims to encourage the production of innovative photography, and for Australian artists to share their work both online and within the Queensland Centre for Photography gallery. For QFP5, the Photography Prize theme is space & place. Depictions of the landscape have always existed within photography, due to the long exposures early photographic techniques required. However, with rapidly improving new technology, the possibilities for depicting and imagining the landscape are limitless.
