Technical information:

Each frame is made from vintage silky oak casement windows that have been repurposed into picture frames. The frames were first stripped by hand of the original paint and primer. They were then sanded back, primed again with water-based primer and painted with interior acrylic paint before being distressed. The frames were then sealed with an acrylic spray varnish to protect them. Each frame weighs approximately 4.5kg each. The back of the frames are sealed with foamcore and framer’s tape to keep dust out and there are heavy duty D-rings and wire for hanging.

The photographs are giclée or archival inkjet prints printed on archival fine art cotton rag paper. The prints were then mounted to stained 4mm ply wood with matte gel medium to protect the image and then coated with a UV varnish that is both waterproof and features antifungals. The varnish will also increase resistance to scuffing and image fading and will protect images against moisture and abrasion. Both fine art paper and varnish are museum grade and are 100+ years archival certified.
